Prentice Kinser III, D.Min., came to St. James' Church,
Montross, and St. Peter's Church, Oak Grove, in June, 2000, and has served here
since that time. He is an ordained minister (Episcopal
priest since 1978), has received a
Doctor of Ministry degree in pastoral counseling and psychotherapy,
is certified as a Pastoral Counselor and Fellow of the American Association of Pastoral
Counselors, is a National Board Certified Diplomate Clinical Hypnotherapist,
and is a
husband, a father of three children, and a grandfather of four grandchildren.
Prior to coming to our parish, Dr. Kinser served
for three years as Assistant Rector, St. John's Episcopal Church, Roanoke,
Virginia, and eleven years as Rector of
St. James' Episcopal Church, Warrenton, Virginia. He also served as Interim
Rector at St. George's Episcopal Church, Fredericksburg, Virginia, Interim
Rector at Trinity Episcopal Church, Washington, Virginia, and, Interim Rector at Grace
Episcopal Church, Casanova, Virginia, while their Rectors were on Sabbatical; and
while working on his doctorate, Dr. Kinser served as Sunday Supply Priest at other Episcopal churches in the Diocese of
Virginia.
He was Executive Director and Pastoral
Counselor for the Blue Ridge Pastoral Counseling Centers and has provided professional
consultations with individuals, churches and industry for a wide rage of
problems and needs. He is the author of the doctoral thesis
Prophecy, Trance and Transference:
Hypnosis as a Pastoral Counseling Modality. He is also the author of the
book: Limitless Living, A Guide to
Unconventional Spiritual Exploration and Growth.
Dr. Kinser has announced that he will retire
as our Rector on November 1, 2010.
