New Parking Lot at St. James' Church,
Montross
The Vestry at St. James' has approved
the paving of the back parking lot and driveway to Rectory Road.
Work has already begun, under the watchful eye of Frances O'Dell, our
Junior Warden, who worked tirelessly to get estimates and bids, to
secure necessary plans and permits, and to spearhead this project for
the Vestry. Since part of the Handicap Ramp Mustard Seed Grant
from the Diocese of Virginia provided for the paving of an area for
handicap parking, the Vestry decided this would be a perfect time to
pave the entire lot while men and equipment would already be here to
accomplish the completion of the ramp project. We believe the
entire parish and the Montross community will benefit from this major
capital improvement. Part of the funds for this project will also
come from the balance of a gift from the Estate of Mary Harvey
Baker. We hope the remaining funds needed will come from the
generosity of our members and friends of the parish.

Work on Cemetery Brick Wall has Begun
at St. James' Church, Montross!
A cemetery improvement project that has
been under consideration for almost 40 years has now been approved and the
first phase has begun. The tearing down of the old buildings
next to the St. James' Cemetery and the removal of old scrub bushes and
wild undergrowth next to the cemetery has prompted the Vestry to move
forward with work on a cemetery wall. Approximately 20 years ago a
"Cemetery Wall Fund" was established and donations have been
received over the years with this project in mind. $17,000 + has
accumulated in that fund which will be used to help meet the $25,000 cost
of the planned section of cemetery wall along the north-west line of the
cemetery and along the side of the church out to Rt. 3. Additional
funds will have to be generated by contributions and other fund raising
projects. The Vestry and Rector deeply appreciate all the effort put
into this project by Frances O'Dell, our Junior Warden, by Bill Jenkins,
Chair of the Cemetery Committee, and by other members of the Cemetery
Committee.
