Joint Parish Service of Confirmation, Reception & Renewal, and Holy Eucharist with our new Bishop Coadjutor, The Rt. Rev. Shannon Johnston

Sunday, June 29, at St. Peter’s Church, 10:30 AM; pot-luck reception to follow in Parish Hall

All in both parishes are encouraged to attend this special event and to meet Bishop Johnston, who will become our Diocesan Bishop in May, 2010.  In preparation for Bishop Johnston’s visitation, we have begun confirmation and reception classes.  They meet at 8:25 AM on the following Sundays: May 18, June 1, 15, and at 9:25 on June 29.   This year the classes are taking place at St. Peter’s Church.  The classes are open for any at St. James’ or St. Peter’s who wish to be confirmed, to be received into this communion or to renew their confirmation vows.  If you wish to join these classes, please contact Dr. Kinser (Rectory: 493-1637; Off: 493-8285).

Church bloopers that actually appeared in church bulletins or were announced in a church service:

….Remember in prayer the many who are sick of our community.

….Beatrice remains in the hospital and needs blood donors for more transfusions.  She is also having trouble sleeping and requests tapes of Pastor Nelson’s sermons.

….Next Thursday there will be tryouts for the choir.  They need all the help they can get.

….For those of you who have children and don’t know it, we have a nursery downstairs.

A Note From the Rector:  I occasionally hear, especially from members who are sick or shut-in, “we hope you aren’t going to retire any time soon.”  And I’m sure there are others who have very graciously not asked, “Are you ever going to retire?”  It is my policy that the parish always be fully informed about any such events, i.e., there will be no secrets.  As you may or may not know, when the combined vestries and I renewed our Letter of Agreement in 2004, the vestries asked that I be here as your Rector until I turn 72, the mandatory age of retirement for all Episcopal clergy; that would be on August 18, 2011, or about three years from now provided my health will permit me staying here full-time for that length of time.  I want you to know what a joy it has been for Mary Ann and me to serve here in your midst for these past eight years.  So if at any time I decide that my health is such that I can not adequately carry out my duties & responsibilities as your Rector and that I must retire, such a decision will be made only with great regret, with full and open discussions with both vestries, and, if possible, allowing plenty of time for the search for and calling of a new Rector.  Dr. Kinser+
